Upgrade your home’s water with the Big Blue 20 Inch Jumbo Whole House Filter System with 55W UV Light. This powerful filter system is designed to deliver clean, safe and great tasting filtered water to every tap in your home.
This single point-of-entry (POE) system filters water as it enters your home and features a 3-stage filtration system to effectively reduce chlorine, chemicals, sediment and other impurities for fresher, tastier water throughout your home as well as safeguarding your plumbing and appliances.
- Stage 1 – 20 Inch 5-micron melt blown polypropylene sediment filter which removes sand, silt, rust, and other sediment.
- Stage 2 – 20 Inch Carbon block filter which reduces chlorine, chemicals, and bad tastes/odours.
- Stage 3 – 20 Inch 1-micron melt blown polypropylene sediment filter which removes finer particles for clearer water.
- Stage 4 – 55W Stainless Steel UV Steriliser which destroys bacteria and pathogens without chemicals.
WHAT IS A UV STERILIZER?
The last stage of disinfection is the ultraviolet system (UV water sterilizer). The UV light is used in water purification to clean water and kills bacteria and microorganisms that are able to infest water even after it has been filtered and treated. This makes water healthier and prolongs the life of water that has been treated and processed.
UV is a type of energy found in the electromagnetic spectrum, lying between x-rays and visible light. Although we cannot see Ultraviolet light or rays, we are exposed to them every time we step out into the sun.
UV Water Purification system uses a special lamp that emits UV light of a particular wavelength that has the ability to disrupt the DNA of micro-organisms. As water passes through a UV water treatment system, bacteria and other living organisms in water absorb the UV energy, which destroys their ability to reproduce and survive. This process of exposing water to ultraviolet light is simple but effective, destroying 99.99% of harmful microorganisms without adding any chemicals to the water.
No additional chemicals are added and once the water leaves the purifier, it is ready for use in your home. It is simple and easy to install and deliver ongoing disinfection without special attention or measurement. There are no detections of chlorine taste or corrosion problems.

Big Blue Water Filters & UV Lights FAQ
1. What are Big Blue water filters?
Big Blue water filters are large‑capacity cartridges designed for whole‑house and high‑flow water filtration systems. They remove sediments, chlorine, rust, and other impurities to improve water quality throughout your property.
2. What is a UV water purifier/light?
A UV (ultraviolet) light water purifier uses ultraviolet radiation to disinfect water by inactivating bacteria, viruses, and other harmful microorganisms without chemicals.
3. How do Big Blue filters and UV lights work together?
Big Blue filters remove particulates and chlorine that can block or reduce the effectiveness of UV treatment. The UV light then disinfects the filtered water, providing safer, cleaner water for drinking and household use.
4. What sizes and types of Big Blue filters are available?
Big Blue cartridges come in standard sizes (e.g., 10” and 20”) and different micron ratings to suit your water quality needs. Options include sediment filters and carbon filters for taste and odor reduction. Always check your filter housing size before ordering.
5. Do UV lights remove chemicals and bad taste?
No — UV lights only disinfect water; they do not remove chemicals, chlorine, taste, or odor. For chemical and taste removal, use carbon‑based filters (like Big Blue carbon cartridges) before the UV unit.
6. How often should I replace Big Blue water filters and UV lamps?
- Big Blue filters: Typically every 3–6 months, depending on water quality and usage.
- UV lamps: Usually every 12 months for effective microbial protection. Always follow manufacturer recommendations.
7. How do I know when filters or UV bulbs need replacing?
- Reduced water flow (filters clogged)
- Water tastes or smells unusual (filters exhausted)
- UV system indicator light shows lamp life expiration
Check your system’s manual for specific signs.
8. Can I install Big Blue filters and UV systems myself?
Many Big Blue filter cartridges are DIY‑friendly, but UV systems often require professional installation to ensure correct lamp positioning, plumbing compliance, and electrical safety.
9. Are Big Blue filters and UV lights suitable for drinking water?
Yes. When combined correctly, they deliver filtered and disinfected water that’s safer and cleaner for drinking, cooking, bathing, and general household use.
10. Where can I buy Big Blue water filters and UV lights?
Big Blue cartridges, UV lamps, housings, and replacement parts are available at ww.pumpsandfilters.co.za South Africa.
